This introductory studio functions as a survey of typographic practice across media platforms. Students will relate typographic form to reading conventions and reproduction technologies. Lectures, readings, projects, class discussions, and critiques will focus on the principles of and techniques for building typographic systems that support effective visual communication.
During this course, students will:
construct and demonstrate the behaviors and creative methodologies of working with typography in design
become familiar with the optical qualities of letterforms and their arrangement in space, build on this knowledge to develop an understanding of information hierarchy and composition, reading, and organization strategies
